04.08.2024 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Best MASH ever! Enthusiastic guests, an exuberant atmosphere and an action-packed programme in every respect - there was everything you need for a milestone birthday. With a new record of 96,000 visitors, MASH celebrated a brilliant action sports party in the Olympic Park to mark its tenth anniversary.

"It was simply fantastic, a successful birthday party, peppered with contests at the highest international level and an eventful and colourful MASH festival that did justice to the anniversary. It was so nice to see how the 'MASH family', i.e. athletes as well as fans and families, young and old, once again came to the Olympic Park and enjoyed the very special atmosphere of our action sports festival," says Olympic Park CEO Marion Schöne and continues, "MASH not only has a firm place in the park's calendar of events, but is also an important date in the annual planning of top national and international athletes. The reputation that the event has built up over the past decade is first-class. And the fact that the action sports festival has been able to develop in this way since 2014 is not least thanks to the continuous support of the City of Munich and our sponsors."

All the finals were "sold out" and MASH reached its capacity limits, especially during the contests, which clearly emphasised the popularity and sporting quality of the action sports festival.

Red Bull Pool Drop
Skating with outdoor pool flair: the floating skate park of the Red Bull Pool Drop offered a top-class set-up with challenging street and pool elements. After qualifying on Friday, the skate elite who had travelled to the event were keen for more on Saturday and delivered a great performance on the extraordinary track. The women opened the final of the Red Bull Pool Drop 2024, which was won by Japan's Miyu Ito, who had already dominated the field in the qualifier. With a score of 80.66 points, she overtook her fellow riders Roos Zwetsloot (NED) and Lore Bruggemann (BEL), who took second and third place with 69.00 and 48.66 points respectively. The trophy also went to Japan in the men's final. With an almost perfect first run and 90.33 points, Kairi Netsuke clearly prevailed over his competitors. Second place went to Angelo Caro from Peru with a score of 85.33, followed by Dashawn Jordan (USA) with 83.66 points.

Among the thousands of enthusiastic fans was a true skateboard pioneer: Karl-Heinz Magnus, known as Lullu, is considered the forefather of the German skateboard scene and was instrumental in turning Munich into the skate stronghold it is today. And so it was a special honour for him to hand over the trophy to the winners of Red Bull Pool Drop. Magnus had organised the first German Championships in the Olympic Park back in 1977.

In the best trick contest on Sunday, the skaters once again unpacked their best skills. Roos Zwetsloot (NED) landed a hattrick, winning on all three obstacles, including a FS Bluntslide on the Maui Jim Shades, a Heelflip BS 5050 on the Picnic Table (Block House Poolside Kiosk) and a Boardslide on the Rainbow Rail (Jeep Watergap). The men's competition was won by the Americans Jake Ilardi with a CabFlip over the Maui Jim Shades, Alex Midler with a BS270 Noseblunt on the Rail into Water and Rescue (Block House Poolside Kiosk) and Dawnshan Jordan with a Nollie Inward Heelflip over the Watergap (Jeep Obstacle).

BMX Spine Samsung Galaxy Flip Zone
It was a hard-fought final at world-class level that the riders delivered in the BMX Spine Samsung Galaxy Flip Zone. As in the qualification on Saturday, the finalists once again unpacked their best tricks and thrilled thousands of fans on the Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz. But in the end, it was Britain's Tom Justice who won the contest with his technically demanding tricks and three consistent runs, two of which were scored. He collected a total of 182.96 points from the judges. The Americans Nick Bruce (181.49) came in second and Jacob Thiem (179.52) third, with only a small gap between them. And it was really close: with a score of 179.33, Florian Dean, the German newcomer to the international BMX scene, finished just a touch behind Jacob Thiem and took an excellent fourth place. The best trick contest was won on Saturday by Nick Bruce with a flair windshield wiper.

Wakeboard-Contest
It was the young wakeboarders who really turned up the heat in the finals on Sunday. The 17-year-old American Rivers Hedrick, who had already taken third place the year before, secured victory on the Olympic Lake with 166.99 points. Italian Claudia Pagnini, who missed last year due to injury, celebrated a magnificent comeback with second place and 164.99 points. The youngest starter in the field, 16-year-old American Campbell Scarborough, came third with 112.32 points. Julia Rick from Cologne was the only German to finish fifth in the finals. The men's final ended in a brothers' duel. This time, however, the younger of the American Stuckey brothers came out on top, narrowly beating his brother. The 18-year-old Gavin scored 178.32 points, his 20-year-old brother Trent 177.32. Rudy Talboys from Great Britain came third in his very first MASH with 144.33 points.

Claudia Pagnini (ITA), Gavin Stuckey (USA) and Felix Georgii (GER) had already won the wakeboard team contest on Friday. Gavin had already won the team contest last year with Rivers Hedrick (USA). With a very strong run from Claudia and Felix as the creative mind, Team Green managed to prevail against Team Red with Katinka Buiting (NLD), Joe Battleday (GBR) and Rudy Talboys (GBR).

Streetdance-Contest
As at last year's premiere, the atmosphere at the street dance contest was absolutely on point and the Theatron was a unique dance palace that was filled to the last seat. The Breaking 2vs2 Mixed format was won by Lil Zoo from Austria and Nord Diamond from Germany in the final battle against Alvin from Colombia and Mighty Jake from Venezuela. In the 7-to-smoke, there was a terrific final after two of the participants had each won five rounds at the end of the time limit and the winner was then chosen in a 1vs1 round. In the end, the judges crowned Franky Dee from Germany the winner of the street dance contest, with Bou Bou from France coming out on top.

MASH & More
This is what the best days really felt like. Tens of thousands of fans enjoyed the MASH Fest in all its facets. The secret of MASH's success has always been the combination of fascinating action sports and a supporting programme that showcases the lifestyle and culture of the scene. For the tenth anniversary, it was the same - but even better: under the motto "coming home", the newly conceived MASH Fest offered plenty of attitude to life - a colourful supporting programme for watching and participating, for celebrating and relaxing. A casual chill-out area invited visitors to linger and relax, while a variety of activities such as skateboarding, dance and graffiti workshops offered an unforgettable experience. From a wide range of food trucks and musical entertainment to artistic performances, there was something for all the senses. A special highlight on Friday evening was the Crux Pistols, who fired up the MASH Square. And there was also the legendary Red Bull after-party on Saturday evening. Basketball fans were also offered a lot at MASH. Three days of action were on the programme at the 3x3 ING Champions Trophy 2024 side event. As part of the MASH Fest, visitors could look forward to exciting matches at the German Basketball Federation's 3x3 Cup. Germany's best 3x3 teams performed spectacular crossovers, buzzer beaters and dunks. There was plenty to cheer about: Games were played in the women's, men's, U18 female and U18 male categories.
