On Thursday 25 March 2021 from 7 p.m., the Olympic Tower will be lit up blue and white to mark the 200th anniversary of modern Greece and its liberation from Ottoman rule.
When the request from the Greek Consulate General reached us, the connection was obvious: without Greece, there would be no Olympic Park! Because without the ancient model, there would have been no modern Olympic Games and thus no Olympic Park in Munich. So we are delighted to express our special connection to the country of origin of the Olympic Games by lighting up the Olympic Tower in the Greek national colours. After all, a Bavarian prince was King of Greece for 30 years, while another Otto, who previously worked in Munich, also achieved "royal" fame as Rehakles, the former football coach.
You do not need accreditation to photograph the Olympic Tower on Thursday. The Olympic Park is open to you and you can move around freely.
