A difficult decision for Olympiapark München GmbH.
A Midsummer Night's Dream and MASH will not take place in the Olympic Park this year either. "It is really difficult for us to cancel these two events, which are so important for us and so popular with the people of Munich. But the uncertain situation, the lack of prospects and the extension of the epidemic situation by the Bundestag until at least the end of June simply do not allow us to plan and stage the two events in the summer," explains Marion Schöne, Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH, with regret.
A Midsummer Night's Dream is a carefree night of dreaming with a unique summer feel. Friends and families come together to spend an easy-going afternoon here at concerts followed by one of the most spectacular fireworks displays in Germany in the evening.
Just like the Midsummer Night's Dream, the three-day action sports festival MASH thrives on free movement around the Olympic Park; there is a constant coming-and-going between the Olympic Lake and Coubertinplatz. The spirit of MASH is inspired by the spectators' enthusiasm, which drives the athletes to deliver top performances with all generations gathering together peacefully. "It is not possible to even attempt to create this very special atmosphere and mood at both events while adhering to strict hygiene concepts," continues Marion Schöne. Without question, however, the tense economic situation also plays a role in the decision: expected restrictions would lead to significantly lower ticket capacities and higher costs for the Midsummer Night's Dream event. It would be even more difficult with MASH. Thanks to the support of Munich City Council and the long-standing sponsors of Olympiapark München GmbH, admission is free to MASH.
"When we had to cancel both events last year, we had no idea that the coronavirus pandemic and its serious consequences for the events sector would force us to make the same difficult decision this year," says Marion Schöne and continues, "All we can do is look ahead. And above all to 2022, the 50th anniversary year of the Olympic Park. A year packed with concerts and events of all kinds: A Midsummer Night's Dream, MASH and the European Championships, the biggest multi-sports event since 1972, along with many other highlights from the anniversary programme."
Important for all Midsummer Night's Dream fans: tickets for A Midsummer Night's Dream 2020 also remain valid for 2022. So keep the tickets safe until the new date on 16 July 2022.
