As part of the renovation of the Olympic Stadium, Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH and Olympiapark München GmbH (OMG) have decided to embark on a new path together. 20 years after football moved from the Olympiastadion to the Allianz Arena, the two companies want to enter into a cooperation that will allow OMG to stage open air concerts at the Fröttmaning stadium when the Olympic Stadium is not available.
"Open air concerts are OMG's most important business segment. That's why I'm very happy to have found a partner in Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH in our search for alternative locations, so that we can continue to offer concert organizers a suitable venue during the stadium renovation," says Marion Schöne, Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH: "I am convinced that with our combined expertise and on the basis of our long-standing good relationship, we will also be able to create brilliant open-air concerts for music fans in the arena in Fröttmaning. However, the Olympiapark will remain the sole point of contact for concert organizers.
The renovation of the Olympic Stadium will start in the fall of 2023 and will require the complete closure of the stadium from the fall of 2025 until the spring of 2027. From 2025, the Allianz Arena will serve as an alternative venue for open-air concerts. "The cooperation with the Allianz Arena gives us the opportunity to bring openair events to Munich even during the closure of the Olympic Stadium," says Marion Schöne.
Andreas Jung, Chief Marketing Officer of FC Bayern: "We are delighted to be able to welcome big names from the music scene to our Allianz Arena in addition to the world's football stars. In addition to the many sporting highlights such as EURO 2024, the Champions League final in 2025 and another NFL game, the open-air concerts in our stadium will certainly be a special experience for all our guests.
"The anticipation is great," says Jürgen Muth, Managing Director of Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH: "Until the renovation of the Olympic Stadium is completed, we will of course create an attractive environment for our visitors to enjoy concerts. We would like to thank the City of Munich and the Olympic Park for their constructive cooperation.
"When it comes to live entertainment, the Olympic Park is one of the top addresses in Germany. The Olympic Stadium and the open air concerts that take place there play a special role in this. As the chairwoman of the supervisory board, I am very pleased that a very good solution has been found for the period of the stadium renovation, which will continue to offer music-loving audiences unique open-air experiences," said Munich's mayor, Verena Dietl.
Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH (MSG), Olympiapark München GmbH and the State Capital of Munich (LHM) are currently discussing how the restriction on use in the hereditary building right agreement between MSG and LHM can be lifted by means of an agreement yet to be concluded. This is necessary in order to realize the planned use of the Allianz Arena for concert events in the period 2025-2027. If the Municipal Committee votes in favor of the cooperation on November 9, 2023, the vote will have to be confirmed by the General Assembly on November 29, 2023.
City Councilor Kristina Frank: "Temporarily opening a football stadium for concerts is not trivial, even legally. I am therefore all the more pleased that the City of Munich, together with Münchner Stadion GmbH and Olympiapark München GmbH, has succeeded in offering the people of Munich an alternative concert venue in the Allianz Arena during the renovation of the Olympic Stadium. Munich will continue to rock!
