The new outing of Munich's Midsummer Night's Dream on 7th July really was a dream come true. Amid temperatures of 25 degrees and cloudless skies, 30,000 visitors revelled, marvelled and enjoyed music, art, street food and Germany's largest firework show in the Olympic Park.
Families, groups of friends, couples and Midsummer Night's Dream fans flocked to Munich's Olympic Park on Saturday to take part in the 13th outing of the event, sponsored by Munich Airport. The highlight of the evening was Germany's most spectacular fireworks display, featuring a stunning arrangement of incredible pyrotechnics, laser, light and fire effects, as well as music. For the first time in the history of the Midsummer Night's Dream, the many visitors witnessed two excitement-raising daytime fireworks displays in the afternoon. "It always gives me enormous pleasure to see so many excited faces as they leave the wonderful show at the Olympic Park with happy smiles", said the Managing Director of Munich's Olympic Park, Marion Schöne, after the final fireworks display.
The musical highlights were just as spectacular as the fireworks. Twelve live acts played on three open-air stages, including Clueso and OMD, who whipped the crowds into a frenzy with their familiar synth-pop songs and brand-new beats.
Making its first appearance at the event was street art. "We're really delighted that the work by the street artist L.E.T. attracted so much attention. The 'Water Gallery' on the Olympic Lake was a huge success", says Marion Schöne.
As the perfect accompaniment to the evening's attractions, food trucks and snack stands across six different food areas served up international dishes, snacks and drinks. The culinary diversity was incredible!
Everything came together to make the 2018 Midsummer Night's Dream a truly unique, wonderful event that even exceeded the successes of previous years.
