The snow cannons are sharp shooters

27.11.2013 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Mother Holle has certainly begun her winter antics, but on the Olympic Mountain things are getting really cool! That's because the snow cannons have been in operation on the Olympic Mountain since yesterday (Tuesday evening, 11 p.m.). So now it will always be snowing when the weather conditions are right. To make the snow as efficiently as possible, the snow generators (which is the technical term for the snow cannons) have been set up by the production company SUFAG over the last few days and programmed. The snow will be produced solely from the constituents of water and air, and as energy-efficiently as possible. Other additives are not used with these machines, and there is no technology to do so either. At low ambient humidity and from a temperature of minus two degrees, the water is sprayed at high pressure through nozzles. When the water hits cold, dry air, this produces snow.
