The excellent relationship between the Olympic Park and FC Bayern München has continued, despite the withdrawal of professional football from the Olympic Stadium. Now, the Bavarians are back – not with football, but with exciting prospects for German federal league basketball players.
“We’re absolutely delighted the FC Bayern wants to establish a first-class basketball team in Munich, and that the Olympic Park has been able to bring this team on board as a further home team for the Olympic Ice Stadium," says Ralph Huber, Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH. And, “This shows that the Olympic Park continues to be the home of first-class sport in Munich. And on the backdrop of the Olympic bid, this is a very encouraging development."
FCB Vice President Bernd Rauch is also delighted about the new playing facilities: “I’m absolutely thrilled by the agreement with the Olympic Park, because it represents a future-focused step for basketball in Southern Bavaria. It also gives FC Bayern the opportunity to gain new appeal for the club with high-level basketball.”
For the Olympic Park as an international event centre, major conversions in a short space of time are part and parcel of everyday business. Consequently, the Olympiapark München GmbH team is looking forward to the new challenge of changing the venue over from ice hockey to basketball at weekends from the 2010/2011 season, and back again, with their customary superb professionalism.
