Tutankhamun comes to the Olympic Park

The pharaoh is coming to Germany: Tutankhamun – his Tomb and Treasures. The exhibition success since April 2009 in the Event Arena of the Munich Olympic Park. Experience the tomb chambers of the Pharaoh in a spectacular reconstruction on an area of over 4000 square metres of the most fascinating tomb in human history with its treasures displayed to museum standards. It offers – for the first time in 87 years – the opportunity to experience the tomb three-dimensionally in the condition in which it was originally discovered. “I see wonderful things ...” When the archaeologist Howard Carter opened the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun on 26th November 1922, he was overwhelmed by the treasures that met his eye. Four chambers lay before him, in some places crammed to the ceiling with burial gifts of inestimable value that were intended to accompany the dead king on his journey to the next world. A unique experience For the exhibition “Tutankhamun – his Tomb and Treasures“, three tomb chambers of the Pharaoh were reconstructed to exactly the original dimensions so that visitors could gain an authentic impression of the scale. More than 1000 replicas of the most important finds, hand-made by the best Egyptian craftsmen, are on view. Information about the culture and spiritual world of the ancient Egyptians – their cult of death, their gods, their dynasties, their secretive hieroglyphic writing – is prepared using the latest multimedia technology and graphically displayed. The tomb and treasure chambers displayed in the exhibition are not to be seen anywhere else in the world – not even in Egypt. This is because the original tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings has since been almost completely cleared out. His treasures are now behind glass and barriers in the cabinets of the Egyptian National Museum in Cairo. The authentic impression of space of the tomb in its original condition can only be experienced in this exhibition.
