It is the world's largest series of obstacle races with 200 events annually in more than 40 different countries. For twelve years, the Spartan Race has been setting standards in terms of obstacles: Hills, mud, water, meadow, fire and sand await the Spartans. On 8/9 April, after a two-year break, the time has finally come. Then it's back to business in the Olympic Park in Munich. Since 2014, the Spartans have been meeting at the historic sports venue in the Bavarian capital. At the start of the season in Germany and Austria, the Spartan Sprint will take all participants through the Olympic Stadium, up the Olympic Hill and through the Olympic Lake. Spectacular. In addition to the 5 kilometres with 20 obstacles, the Munich event also includes the Night Sprint and a Kids Race for young athletes.
This year, Munich is not only the season opener in Germany and the only DACH race before the Spartan Summer, but also the first part of the regional DACH Series 2022. The series for elite and age-group runners comprises four races in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, at the end of which the coveted title of DACH Regional Series Champion 2022 and, for the first time, prize money will be awarded. From Munich to Kulmbach, via St. Pölten to Verbier, the venue of the series finale. This diverse field of participants is what creates the unique flair in the Olympic Park: The mixture of professional elite athletes, strong amateur athletes, motivated company teams and newcomers who are standing at the Spartan starting line for the first time will ensure an exciting atmosphere with festival feeling around the Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Platz. Ideal for showing team spirit and simply having fun as a family, group of colleagues and friends. Perfect for new Spartans to get tips and tricks from experienced athletes.
In Munich, the little Spartans of tomorrow will be encouraged and will open the race in the Olympic Park on 8 April from 15:00 - 18:00. The Spartan Kids Race presented by AOK will feature three different age groups between 4 and 13 years. They have to master obstacles on courses of 800 m, 1,600 m or 3,200 m with lots of climbing, jumping and running. At the end, the coveted Spartan Kids Race medal and a lot of new-found self-confidence await.
Before the obstacles and headlamps light up the night on Friday, at 4 p.m. the participants of the Hurricane Heat will set off on their own personal four-hour journey that will push them to their mental and physical limits. Cohesion, team spirit and physical as well as mental strength are required for this extreme endurance race. In the spectacular Spartan Night Sprint, they will then run in the dark over the legendary original sprint course with 5 kilometres and 20 obstacles. Perfect for "old hands" to experience the Spartan Sprint from a completely different perspective or for new Spartans to get a taste of Spartan air. The event starts on Friday, 8 April, at 9 pm. On Saturday 9 April, the starting signal for the first heat at the Spartan Sprint Munich will be given at 9:00 am. The historic sports venue shows that urban is also possible with nature and offers everything the Spartan heart desires: Water, mud, fire, sand and steep climbs up to the Olympiaberg, the highest point of the race with a magnificent view over the capital.
