Red has always been an important colour for Mick Hucknall, who grew up in Manchester. As a supporter of the Labour Party, an ardent fan of Manchester United and, of course, because of his hair: it was therefore only natural to name the band he founded in early 1985 ‘Simply Red’. While the commercial successes with his punk band ‘Frantic Elevators’ had remained manageable in the previous years, Hucknall achieved a sensational breakthrough with his new formation after just a few months. The first singles became big hits, whether ‘Money's Too Tight (To Mention)’ or ‘Holding Back The Years’, which even reached number 1 in the charts in the USA. They also landed a bestseller with their debut album ‘Picture Book’, which climbed to number 2 in their British homeland. The 1991 release ‘Stars’ went on to become one of the most successful albums of the 1990s, selling more than nine million copies.
Following their 13th studio album ‘Time’ (2023), Simply Red are now embarking on a major anniversary tour - and are now returning to Munich more than 30 years after their first appearance in the Olympic Hall. With all the great hits from four impressive decades.
