‘Was ist wohl aus ihr geworden’ was the title of the first single that Roland Kaiser released in December 1974. What would have become of him if he had allowed the poor sales figures to dissuade him from pursuing a career as an artist? Hard to say. But Kaiser persevered. In July 1977, he landed his first song in the Top 10 with ‘Sieben Fässer Wein’. In 1980, he scored his first number 1 hit with ‘Santa Maria’. Today, the West Berlin native is considered one of the country's most successful musicians, having sold around 100 million albums. Among the many awards he was honoured with during his career were four Golden Tuning Forks, a Golden Camera and the Golden Hen for his life's work.
After his serious illness and a successful lung transplant in 2010, Roland Kaiser took off again. Shortly before his 70th birthday in 2022, he said: ‘It's the age when you realise that no journey in life is endless. Each of us arrives in the autumn of life at some point. Nevertheless, I still have so much to do and so much more to say.’ And that still applies now. Hence the new album - and hence the next tour, on which he will be stopping off at the Olympic Hall on 6 June 2025.
