You can look forward to an exciting race in the professional field. Top Kenyan runners Cosmas Birech (38, winner of the Rome Marathon 2018), Dominic Nyairo (27, winner of the Hofu Marathon 2021/China) and William Kibor (39, winner of the Nancy Half Marathon 2023) are the hottest contenders for victory. All three will start with an existing best time of under 2:09 hours. The women's race will also be exciting: Shamilah Kipsiror (38) from Kenya and Viola Chemos (31) from Uganda, who have both recently impressed with strong half marathon performances, are among the favourites. The weekend of events begins on 11 October with the marathon fair in the so-called GMM Village in the Olympic Hall and on Saturday, 12 October, the mini marathon for children aged 6-14 will take place from 14:00, as well as the International Costume Run from 10:30 on a three-kilometre course through the Olympic Park.

The marathon on Sunday will follow the tried and tested route on a one-lap course through Munich, passing numerous sights that offer one tourist highlight after another during the race. It goes along Leopoldstraße, past the Siegestor, through the English Garden, past art nouveau villas in the east of Munich, past the Gasteig and back to the centre with the Bavarian State Opera, Marienplatz and Odeonsplatz, before returning to the Olympic Park. The half marathon starts in the English Garden at the Chinese Tower and covers the second half of the marathon course.
