The trio is still brimming with creativity and musicality. On their new record, Joe Newman, Gus Unger Hamilton, and Thom Green take the listener through unconventional song structures that move between simple guitar strumming and orchestral harmonies, finding ways to reinvent themselves without sounding experimental. The lads recorded this new album in various London studios – including the legendary Abbey Road – with their trusty producer, Charlie Andrew. The talent for a superb melody, the instinct to fuse different styles together into one entity, and a curiosity for new things remain their trademark. The songs are in part more voluminous, and above all more multifaceted. Alt-J allows itself time for a song to develop; the first singles, “3 WW” and “In Cold Blood” underscore this, but there’s also a slightly twisted rocker with “Deadcrush”. Live, the band has set new standards with its musical finesse, outstanding live sound, and a visually impressive production. We look forward to Alt-J’s show in the Munich Olympic Hall in early 2018!
