Its a race for slalom points at Olympia Hill on 1st January 2013

25.10.2012 - Olympiapark München GmbH

Start of ticket pre-sales for the Munich Parallel Slalom to mark the opening of the World Cup in Sölden. Top 16 women and men face off at the Audi FIS Ski World Cup.  An even more exciting race this time! At the Audi FIS Ski World Cup on Olympia Hill, the 16 best downhill skiers in the world will also include the world's absolute slalom pros. The race on 1st January 2013 won't “just” be for overall world cup points, as opposed to last time, but also for valuable scores in the Slalom World Cup rankings. So when it comes time for “blue ready, red ready, go” on New Year's Day, the following pros will also be on the hill: Local heroes such as Maria Höfl-Riesch, Lena Dürr and Christina Geiger, as well as Felix Neureuther und Fritz Dopfe, but also slalom greats such as 2011/12 World Cup champions André Myhrer (Sweden), Ivica Kostelić (Croatia) or Marcel Hirscher (Austria), and for the women, top contenders from last season's World Cup slalom Marlies Schild, Michaela Kirchgasser (both from Austria) or Tina Maze (Slovenia). “We are committed to this city event and believe in its success,” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper, discussing the decision regarding the change in regulations for the Munich parallel slalom.  The World Cup race was after all a great success in its first year. Twenty-five thousand enthusiastic spectators came to the park in 2011 to experience live the thrilling duels pitting man against man and woman against woman. “The cancellation this year was of course very disappointing. But the Munich race wasn't the only competition to fall victim to the weather conditions last season. We are all the more motivated to once again host a World Cup that inspires everyone. The support shown by the FIS and DSV (German Ski Association) in also sending the best slalom racers to Munich has naturally given us a boost. We've also carried out another significant technical upgrade,” said Organising Committee Director Frank Seipp of S&K Marketing GmbH. And Olympic Park Director Ralph Huber noted, “We are very happy about the signal that's been sent here. Ultimately, the change in the race's regulations means it is being upgraded, making it more attractive and interesting as a sporting event.” And in this race, the twelve best women and men respectively from the World Cup slalom as well as the top four in the overall World Cup rankings will face off on Olympia Hill. An entertaining side programme for all skiing fans will once again accompany the race in 2013. The activities areas at the Sponsor Market promise to be full of fun and action-packed, and winter treats await visitors in the gastro area. And BAYERN 3 radio will once again be there for the parallel slalom on Olympia Hill. So, first-class sport, action, fun and great entertainment are guaranteed!
