02/07/2006: On skates in the MOWOS. The ice-skating couple Kati Winkler and René Lohse, and the successful Holiday on Ice shows, are immortalised in the cement of Munich.
Kati Winkler and René Lohse are the most successful German ice-dancing couple of recent years. The high point of their long career was winning the bronze medal at the 2004 World Championships in Dortmund. And Holiday on Ice is the world's most successful shown on ice. In the Munich Olympic Hall in particular, the ice show has been extremely successful since 1972. And that's a good enough reason to immortalise the show and its stars in the MOWOS.
They came gliding over the ice on skates, and thousands applauded. During the show fantasy and on the ice at the Olympic Hall, Kati Winkler and René Lohse pressed their hands into the wet cement. The popular couple accepted the honour on behalf of Holiday on Ice and its stars. Throughout the world, over 300 million people have seen the shows, and the Olympic Hall alone has welcomed two million spectators since 1972.
